After nearly five years, Shrimp Art draws to an end. While I am still happily part of the Yen Press team, I am now working from the great state of Michigan, and therefore can no longer report on the antics that are undoubtedly taking place in our New York office. It's been a lot of fun pushing myself to do this comic, and I thank those of you who have stopped by monthly to check things out. Eventually, this site will either be transformed into a general site for me to post artworks and such or will be folded into a new site, and I do hope you continue to visit. Thank you again!

february 2013 afterwords

The winter months are a perfect time for playing board games with friends and the fam (not that there's anything wrong with playing board games in the summer months as well), so this set of afterwords features some board game classics:
Kurt as Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly
Wendy as the poor sod from Operation
Abby as Colonel Mustard in the Afterword with the Lead Pipe from Clue
JuYoun as a cheese-stealer from Mouse Trap
Tania as a Hungry Hungry Hippo
As you can tell from this post and this one, I really like playing board games ^^

I don't even actually have that many shoes, it's just that the shoes I have are very disorganized. I have a very neat organizer at home, so I'm not sure how I dropped the ball at work... I suppose shoe-organizing takes a back seat when there's editing to be done!

2013. I resolve to do more art for me. Though I'm not closed to requests :P Also, you should check out James Jean. As Wendy said at James's opening, it's incredible to see what humans are capable of producing. Humans with crazy skills and talent, that is. We were too cowardly to approach him at the show. (You've all seen how that kind of thing generally goes for me.) But hopefully our contribution to that packed gallery opening in the form of our presence showed how much his work is admired and appreciated. Look forward to another year of Abby's developing skills here!

Belated holiday greetings~ In the end, I got Kurt some Minecraft block magnets and filled his mini-fridge with Heineken, and JuYoun is now the proud owner of a Sheldon-approved Soft Kitty pillow. Go ahead and sing it. You know you want to. =^-_-^=

gallery project 2012

dydreemblvr's Gallery Project 2012 album on Photobucket

For the past few years, an inspired designer at our company has organized a gallery event for artists within the company to showcase their work. The challenge is for participants to create three pieces within a six-month period to be displayed in the atrium area of our building for a week. For the past couple, I've talked myself out of it. But this time madness took over, and I decided to go for it. And when I came across a discarded mannequin torso outside of a shop, it became the inspiration for my project (along with the gents of DC and Marvel). I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially since I don't generally make time for painting...maybe I will now! (I also displayed some comic pages, which I hope to turn into a short webcomic one day, so those I'll save for later.)

Bonus points if you can name everyone. (I think there are 27...)

Related to hair and pens, I must say that learning how to fix my hair in a bun using only a pen or pencil is one of the greatest discoveries of all time.

We were so afraid it was an inadvertent coincidence, and that after a lifetime of schoolyard teasing, any mention of the great Captain Picard would make Jean-Luc hate us all... Luckily he's a Trekkie like the rest of us ^^ I can only hope my own future children will be as good humored about their inevitable geek names...

No, really, being an intern is a lot more exciting than doing a lot of random organizational nonsense. Really.

Despite TCAF's "no costume" rule, many of us nerds donned Homestuck T-shirts and spent many hours in line hoping for a face-to-face with Andrew Hussie. I was one of the weak ones whose pained feet forced me to abandon hope and my place in line. But! It was a super-fun time (not to mention the event is free), so if you're in Toronto next May, you really ought to stop in and see some of your favorite artists in person! Or in some cases, from a short distance... ^^;;

february 2012 afterwords

In February, YEN PLUS became the first manga magazine to simultaneously publish the English edition of a Japanese series with the release in Japan. (Sorry, SJ Alpha, you are two weeks too slow!)
Tania, Wendy, and Abby here are the three main characters of Soul Eater NOT!: Anya, Tsugumi, and Meme. (Meme has a bit of a memory problem which is why she/I looks so lost.) And my bosses stand in for the witch Shaula and her henchman...
Hopefully we'll have more simul series someday~
